Boulder is one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States. The area offers exceptional career opportunities, a safe and welcoming community, and a thriving local economy. What's not to like, and did we mention you're a heartbeat away from unmatched hiking, biking, mountain climbing, and skiing?
Boulder radiates small-town vibes with boundless big-city amenities and energy. It's a top place to live for residents of all ages, including students, young professionals, and growing families. With more than 100,000 people, the city is the heart of the Rocky Mountain foothills, sits a short 25-mile drive from Denver, and boasts first-rate schools.
Our team at Safely Finance is incredibly excited to be working in Boulder. To celebrate, we sat down with our partners at RÊVE, a new luxury apartment community managed by Greystar. Here’s what Danielle LaFerrier, Community Manager, and RJ Dumke, Leasing Professional, have to say about living in the People’s Republic.
Welcome to Boulder, CO, where if you are bored, it is because you choose to be!
You might never feel the need to drive to Denver. Boulder proudly provides both residents and visitors with a little bit of everything done right. Delicious food, fulfilling work, beautiful scenery, and all sorts of entertainment and recreation. Maybe Denver claims the major airport, but no one wants to leave. Much the opposite, the permanent population grew by 11.2% between 2010 and 2020, and 1.8 million tourists visit Boulder annually.
Safely Finance: Danielle, how would you describe living in Boulder?
Danielle: Boulder is one of those places that feels like home from the moment you arrive, offering something for everyone, from the indisputable proximity to the mountains to a quick drive to Denver for a taste of the city life.
Safely Finance: If you're visiting Denver for the first time, what would you do?
Danielle: I recommend visiting Chautauqua Park and completing the Flatirons Loop trail to embrace the sheer size and magnificence of one of Boulder's quintessential landmarks. After conquering the Loop, head to the rooftop at Avanti F&B for a cold beverage and an unobstructed view of the Flatirons and Pearl Street Mall. A short drive away, Blackbelly features farm-to-table dining options focusing on seasonal ingredients, quality, flavor, and welcoming hospitality. If you enjoy winter sports, Boulder's home mountain resort, Eldora, is a brief 30-minute drive on Canyon Boulevard; make sure to get there early as parking fills up by 8:30 AM. Depending on the season, there are many great things to explore in Boulder.
Safely Finance: That's an awesome list! What if I want to catch a game?
RJ: Take the 45-minute flatiron flyer down to Denver to catch the Colorado Avalanche hockey team or the Denver Nuggets at the Ball Arena!
Boulder offers all sorts of career opportunities. Your interest might be working the slopes as a ski instructor or maybe swapping snowboards for keyboards in the tech scene. Google even has a hub in the area, as do several other large companies like Qualcomm, NetApp, Medtronic, IBM, and Ball. With the influx of new residents, the demand for housing remains strong. Construction, property management, and real estate opportunities abound.

Though Boulder holds a reputation as a college town, the population feels much more balanced than smaller sister cities. Students make up 28% of the population. The Pearl Street Mall might be pulsing with live music, yet you'll see a mix of singles, couples, and families enjoying the good vibes and delicious restaurants. Just the same, you'll find a balance of kids, students, and adults with dogs and strollers enjoying community sports, culture, art, and the many parks and open spaces.
Safely Finance: RJ, what should new Boulderites do in the first few months of settling in?
RJ: Boulder has many activities to choose from, sitting pretty at the base of the well-renowned flatiron mountains. The beautiful Eldora ski resort is located just 30 minutes away with cheap and easy local transportation that will take you to and from the mountain resort throughout the winter months. Another Beautiful thing to do in the winter months is head up to Estes Park and take a wonderful snowshoe through the canyons or sign up for snowmobile tours through some of Colorado's most beautiful trails.
Safely Finance: And what would you recommend for summer adventures?
RJ: Boulder has much to offer during the summer months, from extraordinary mountain biking, hiking, and running trails that will leave you with breathtaking views. After a long day of being active, try one of Boulder's infamous restaurants on pearl street, such as Japango Sushi, West End Tavern Barbeque, or SALT bistro!
Still, CU Boulder remains an unavoidable and incredible part of the community. The university serves as a magnet for arts and culture, welcoming locals to see touring musicians, artists in residence, sports teams, and other performances and entertainment. On the same day, you might spend the morning hiking an hour away in Rocky Mountain National Park and then return to the city to catch your favorite musician at the Macky Auditorium Concert Hall on campus.
